John has been a professional vocal coach in the San Francisco Bay Area for the last sixteen years. He studied under Seth Riggs, Lynn Wickham, and Raz Kennedy, and studied the Alexander Technique under John Baron. He began voice teaching after working as a producer and arranger for other singers in San Francisco after college. His background in sound engineering and recording has carried with him through the years, along with music directing, piano accompaniment, and performing as a Jazz vocalist.

Before working as a full time voice instructor in 1992, John worked as a Molecular Biologist at several biotech firms including Genentech, the University of California at San Francisco, and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. His background in academic research has been the framework for the development of his new vocal technique, which has been his sole focus for the past three years. The JDSMethod is an integration of his backround in contemporary and classical vocal techniques, along with his understanding the Alexander Technique and its application to specific muscles involved with control of the voice. His goal is to allow every singer to achieve a full blending of the chest and head voices throughout the entire range of the voice while allowing for them to maintain their own unique style and individual character.

Currently John is focusing on training other associates in the use of his method, which involves an extensive library of audio scales, and a detailed course of study through five levels of advancement. The method will be available to singers around the world this fall through a DVD and online program.
